MICHAEL ALBERT SABOL

May 16, 1937 – April 30, 2025

Michael Albert Sabol, 87, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025. Mike was born on May 16, 1937 in Duquesne, PA. He attended Duquesne High School before enlisting in the Marines. After the Marines he moved out to California to play football for BC and that is when he met the love of his life, Ann. He called her his Queen. They got married, bought a house and raised three sons. They loved to travel with their friends, play cards, go to the movies and just hangout at Starbucks. But mostly loved spending time with family.

Mike was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He never missed any sports or school activities, whether it be for his own children or the grandchildren. Mike was always giving out advice to one of us and loved making his famous soup. Our weekly family dinners will never be the same.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marines from 1954 to1962. He took great pride in being recognized as a Marine and always could be seen with his Marine ball cap on. Mike was always involved with his local military community and helping other veterans. He was President of the Korean War Veterans of Kern County and was very proud to have helped build the Korean War Memorial.

Mike worked as a butcher for many years before becoming a Representative of the UFCW. After retiring he volunteered and was active in the UFCW retirees club. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club and enjoyed playing handball.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Ann Sabol; son, Michael Shawn Sabol; brothers, Joseph and Toody Bartko; sisters, Mary Ann Michaels, Michelle and Kelly Bartko.

Mike is survived by his son Jason(Amy)Sabol, Darin(Donna)Sabol his grandchildren, Madison(Dakota), Hudson,Tyler, Parker and Connor Sabol and his great-grandson Maddox Millwood; brothers Jim and Jeff Bartko. As well as many other nieces, nephews and friends that loved him.

To know Mike was to know his big smile and heart full of gold. He will be missed more than words can express, but we rejoice in knowing he is now at peace and dancing once again with his beautiful Queen Ann.

Services will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery 30338 E Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, CA on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kern Veterans Memorial or Kern County Honor Flight.

Thank you for your service to our country and honoring all Veterans. Your leadership was instrumental in building the Korean War Memorial and an inspiration to build the World War II Memorial next to it. Rest in peace my fellow Veteran. Blessings,
Ed G.
