Michael Lester Scalf, age 58, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at his home.
Born in Corbin, he was the son of the late Lester Scalf and Henrietta Cox Scalf. Michael found joy in the simplest pleasures of life—be it spending time at the horse track, relishing the tranquility of nature during his walks outdoors, or simply being surrounded by the people he loved most.
A veteran of the United States Army, Michael exemplified bravery, integrity, and selflessness throughout his service. His dedication to the country he loved was a testament to his strong character. Following his military service, Michael served his local community as a newspaper carrier for the Times-Tribune, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many. His work ethic and commitment to service were admired by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Hutton and Linda Scalf; and half-brother, Steve Hensley.
He is survived by his sister, Deloris Scalf (Steve Smith); nieces and nephews, Dewey Scalf (Sundie), Samantha Scalf, Tash Disney (Frankie), Christy Hutton, Kenneth Hutton II, Eric Hutton, and Deric Hutton (Melissa); brother-in-law, Kenneth Hutton; aunt, Jimmy Skinner; uncle, Gorman Scalf; his special fur baby, Kitty-Kitty; and by numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 11 am with Rev. Ronnie Smith, Rev. Josh VanNorstran, and Kenny Hutton II officiating.
