Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin & Hightower Funeral Home - Carrollton on Jan. 11, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Davis Scott, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on June 15, 1947, in
Brunswick, Georgia, Mike was the son of the late Edward Lee Scott and Melba Lee Dubberly Scott. From the very beginning, he lived life with purpose, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved.
Mike possessed a true entrepreneurial spirit and enjoyed a long and successful career in sales. He was best known as the owner of Mike's Shopper of Georgia, a local advertising publication that became well known throughout the community. In addition to his primary business, Mike pursued other entrepreneurial ventures and maintained a strong passion for real estate. His professional success reflected who he was personally - driven, personable yet direct, and someone who naturally commanded respect. Above all, his work was motivated by one goal: providing a stable and meaningful life for his family.
Despite his strong work ethic, Mike was exceptionally good at balancing work and family. He believed deeply in being present and found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved the beach, long hours spent swinging on the porch, riding his motorcycle, and firing up the grill to cook for those he loved. He enjoyed card games, trips to play the slots, bargain shopping, small projects around the house, and spending time with his loyal black labs, whose companionship brought him comfort and joy.
Above all else, Mike's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Elayna Begody, Emily Twyman, Jon Matlaga, Pearson Scott, Anna Scott, and Sara Scott. Few things made him smile more than time spent with them, and they were a constant source of pride and happiness in his life.
Mike leaves behind his three children and their spouses, who were the center of his world: Angela Lee Matlaga; Chad Anthony Scott and his wife, Candice; and Stephen James Scott and his wife, Addie. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Janice Scott and Nancy Haynes, along with many extended family members and friends who were blessed by his unwavering love, loyalty, and steady presence.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved wife, Sherry Fuller Scott, whom he loved dearly and missed deeply. She was his soulmate, and their bond was one of deep devotion and enduring love. Sherry remained forever close to his heart and was the love that shaped his life.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Mike's life during a visitation at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on January 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at Next Door Event Space at City Tavern for a time of fellowship and remembrance.
As we gather to share stories, laughter, and cherished memories, we celebrate a man who loved deeply, lived fully, and left a lasting mark on everyone he met. Mike will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, loyalty, and generosity will live on forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mike's honor to the
Carroll County Humane Society or to the Veterans Memorial Park.
