Warren - Michael "Mike" Sember, Jr. left this earth surrounded by his loving family on March 29, 2025 at the young age of 70 after a brief battle with metastatic esophageal cancer.
Mike was born and raised in
Warren, Ohio to his parents Michael and Josephine Sember. He had many cherished memories with his younger siblings Chris (Bruce) Kimes and Joe (Stephanie) Sember, and throughout their childhood they attended St. Peter and Paul's church and school. As the siblings grew older, they enjoyed swapping recipes, holding family gatherings, singing karaoke with nieces and nephews, laughing and carrying on. As Mike got older, he found his love for cooking by working in the kitchen at The Chateau. He displayed his incredible work ethic first by graduating Warren Western Reserve High School while working at the restaurant, and then by working for Delphi as a contractor while attending YSU for electrical engineering. He finished his career by working for Gilanyi Engineering. Some of his favorite memories from his younger years came from summers spent with his best friends in Layolomi Beach, Canada. He then met his loving wife, Barbara and they married on August 23, 1980. They had three beautiful children together, Michael (Alyssa), Maria (Anthony), and Mark (Joann). Mike was blessed to see all three of his children get married, and to be there for the birth of his first grandchild, Nicolina. He spent over 50 years as an electrical designer and also ran his private engraving business on the side. His favorite way to kick back and relax from all the work was watching old western movies, playing golf, and being an Andy Griffith Show trivia expert.
Mike had fought two different types of cancers for over a decade, and our family has been so grateful for all the medical care he has received in that time. All of the nurses and physicians of Cleveland Clinic were incredible and played a large role in Mike's initial treatment and subsequent surgeries for his cancers. We also have immense gratitude to all the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph Warren Hospital who provided such wonderful and compassionate care in his final month on this earth. Mike is preceded in death by his father and mother. Carrying on his legacy is his wife of 44 years, Barbara, his three children, two siblings, granddaughter, nieces, and nephews. Just after Mike passed, we came across a quote that he had saved on his computer, and we feel he wanted to leave the world with this in mind. "When you die, that does not mean you lose to cancer, you beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live."
