Obituary published on Legacy.com by Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jun. 11, 2025.
Michael David Setliff, was born on November 10, 1969, in Portsmouth, VA. He passed away in his Chesapeake home on June 9, 2025, at the age of 55, after a short 7-month battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death.
Mike attended Great Bridge High School and the Vocational Center, where he was enrolled in auto body. After high school, Mike worked at a few dealerships before landing his 20+ year career at Performance Chevrolet in Elizabeth City, NC. He had a passion for fixing cars and was the best automotive painter on the East Coast, as he was told by numerous people.
His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 29 years, Laura Setliff; sons, Derec Setliff (Jazmine) and Jakeb Setliff (Taylor); mother, Angelia Setliff (Gregory); father, Michael Setliff (Nancy); sister, Cheryl Lockhart; brother, Chris Setliff (Jeanine); niece, Casey Hobbs (Troy); nephews, Spencer Ogden and CJ Setliff; father in law, Neal Ogden; brother in law, Cam Ogden (Therese); special cousin, Lorie Jane Tuck; unborn granddaughter, Sadie Rose Setliff; unborn great niece, Lainey Dee Hobbs - both due in October 2025. He is also survived by close family friends, Mike and Tammy Nelson, and Travis Kane; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mike was known for his laid-back personality and was always up for anything, whether it be a day at the beach, hanging out by the pool, or even a last-minute vacation. He loved anything and everything to do with grilling or smoking whether on his Traeger or Blackstone. Friends even reached out to him for grilling advice as he was known as the "grill master". He loved his IPA and craft beers, and would bring some home to share with friends from his travels. He loved the outdoors, planting his banana trees every summer, and blaring his heavy metal music in his garage. But more than anything, Mike loved his family with every ounce of his being. He taught his boys how to work for what they wanted, and instilled an amazing work ethic in both of them, of which he was very proud. His stunning blue eyes and infectious smile will be missed by everyone that knew him.
