Michael Sanford Setliff, 79, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away on October 16, 2025, after a long illness. Mike was born in Boone County, West Virginia, to the late Ezra and Lendell Setliff on April 21, 1946. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Alan Setliff and son, Michael David Setliff.
After graduating in 1964 from Van High School, he and his first wife, Angelia, moved to Norfolk, VA, where he served in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the USS Wright during the Vietnam War. He was a certified TV repairman for many years before embarking on a different career path. In 1989, he accepted a job with the Chesapeake Public Schools in the IT department and went on to become a Unix Systems Administrator. He also taught computer literacy, photography and GED night classes at the Chesapeake Adult Education Center for several years. He was very passionate about his work and was always willing to help others with any and all IT questions. His career provided a strong sense of purpose that remained relevant, even until the end of his life. He was a great provider and took immense pride in spoiling his children and grandchildren. He loved showing up unannounced with purchases from Sam's Club, whether it be pistachios, paper towels, candy, etc.; you never knew until he showed up. He loved anything and everything to do with computers and was the family and friend's computer "go to guy." He loved playing chess, watching The History Channel and was an avid chocolate enthusiast. He even kept a hidden stash at the hospital during his recent stay.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Nancy Setliff; first wife, Angelia Setliff (Gregory); brother, Tony Setliff (Lisa); daughter, Cheryl Lockhart; son, Christopher Setliff (Jeanine); daughter-in-law, Laura Setliff; stepdaughter, Elisa Meri Hansen (Laz); grandchildren, Astrid Feldman, Derec Setliff (Jazmine), Jakeb Setliff, CJ Setliff, Wolfgang Pina; great-granddaughter, Sadie Rose Setliff.
The family will start receiving friends on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 10 AM, and the memorial service will start promptly at 11 AM, at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA, with Pastor Tracy Gregory officiating.
