Michael John Severcool, 68, passed away at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA on March 17, 2026. He was born on April 14, 1957, in Tunkhannock, PA to the late Thomas Severcool (d. 2015) and Joan (Lewis) Durland (d. 1993).
Mike was very well liked by all who met him. Always quick witted and ready with an off-color comment or joke with a delivery that always made you laugh. He had many stories he liked to share about his younger, harder years but there was always a point to the stories that made you walk away thinking or amazed. He was a generous man to family, friends and strangers alike. If there was any way he could help, he would.
Mike's favorite pastime was fishing and ice-fishing. He fished at many local ponds and lakes, making friends with the landowners that allowed him to fish on their property. Many of the stories he shared were about fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed listening to good music of all genres and always singing along.
His pets were his pride and joy and he would be quick to inform you that he liked them better than people. His silver-lab, Lily, was his current best friend and he was always more concerned about her well-being than his own. The loss of his prior pet, Peanut (or more affectionately referred to as "dammit") was devastating to Mike. The love he had for his dogs was unmatched.
Mike was unapologetically a hard-leaning conservative who believed God, Family and Country came first and had no qualms about telling you exactly that. He loved discussing conspiracy theories and giving warnings and advice about being prepared for when the power grid goes down. He would always be sure to let family and friends who were traveling know where the hot spots were to watch for Sasquatch along their travels.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but all will carry with them the stories he has shared and will continue to laugh when we share them in his memory.
Mike is survived by his sister and caretaker, Joan Newhart, Factoryville, PA; brother, Clinton Severcool, Hyde Park, VT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Irene Comstock (d. 2008), Karen Bowman (d. 2014); brothers, David Severcool (d. 2015) and Thomas H. Severcool (d. 2024).
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA and the home health nurses of Traditional Home Health Care for their loving care of Mike.
There will be no services per Mike's wishes and in the words of his own favorite sign off, "Eyes Open".
