Dr. Michael Silane, 82 of Pelham, NY died peacefully at Calvary Hospital on February 5, 2026. He was born in the Bronx in 1943 to Roy and Louise Silane, and was the older brother to Frank Silane. Michael attended Georgetown College and Georgetown Medical School. He then completed a surgical residency at Cornell-New York Hospital, followed by a Vascular Surgery Residency at UCSF, and an NIH Fellowship at Harvard.
He was a Lieutenant Commander and a physician in the US Navy, before becoming an attending physician at Cornell-New York Hospital for 45 years. He was also the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Beth Israel Hospital for 10 years. He was a member and past President of the NY Society of Vascular Surgery, where a Training Fellowship has been established in his honor. He was consistently named in Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors in the NY Metropolitan Area. Michael’s patients adored him, appreciating his kind spirit, extraordinary skill, and genuine care.
In his spare time, he loved woodworking, building many of the dressers, side tables, and toy chests his family will enjoy for generations. He also enjoyed playing tennis, and was especially proud when his tennis club named him the best dressed player (a moniker his family lovingly refuted).
Above all else, he was devoted to his Catholic faith and his family, cherishing his wife, Margaret, daughters Jennifer and Lynn, and six grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Although he struggled with poor health for the last few years, his gregarious spirit, love of family, and dedication to his faith shone through, bringing warmth and light to everyone around him.
