Michael Slyby Obituary
Michael Roland Slyby, age 86, passed away November 19, 2021, at Mill Pond Senior Living in Ankeny where he resided. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Family will greet guests following the service.
Mike was born on February 21, 1935, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of William and Ruth Slyby. He moved to Iowa when he was a young man and worked for the Iowa DOT as an engineer for over 30 years. He was also proud to have served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Mike's love of technology continued into retirement, and he could fix anything. He also enjoyed playing games, watching basketball, ushering at his church, and most of all spending time with his wife and family.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Carol Smith, step-daughter Lisa Carlson (Luke), step-son Jon Cox (Deb), and many nephews, nieces, dear friends, and former neighbors. He is also survived by his grandchildren Courtney Strother (Rob) and Drew Carlson (Cathlin) whom he cherished and built many lasting memories.
The family extends its immense gratitude for the loving care Mike received at Mill Pond over the last eight months.
