Michael Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McLaughlin Funeral Chapel on Mar. 3, 2023.
Michael D. Smith, 61, of Kansas City, MO, departed this life, Thursday, March 2, 2023.
Michael was born May 8, 1961, to Norma (Clark) Patrick and Dallas Smith Jr.
Michael D. Smith graduated from high school in 1980. He loved school and was an excellent student. After graduation he went to Baltimore, Maryland to live with his father and continue his education. He became interested in computers and became a computer programmer specialist.
Following in his father's and brothers' footsteps, he too joined the armed services. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 13 years, after which he was employed by the U.S. Social Security Administration for 15 years until his recent retirement because of a physical disability.
To know Michael D. Smith was to love him. He had a heart of gold. He took great pride in caring for others, especially his family and friends. Despite Michael's illness, he never wavered when it came to caring for his father who preceded him in death a few months ago. He was always putting others first. Michael loved the Lord, and he joined the Pentecostal Church at an early age.
"Sleep on Michael – God has a blessing with your name on it".
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Norma J. and Milton F. Patrick of Columbia; siblings, Anthony Q. Smith of AR, Kenneth L. Smith (Brigitt) of Indianapolis, IN, Nigel "Sam" Smith of Kansas City, MO, Leonard Patrick (Rachael), of Arizona, Phyllis Cline of Sedalia, and Vertina Williams of Columbia; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth A. "Leavy" Smith; and a brother, Dallas Smith III.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of Michael's caregivers for the great care he received.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Crown Hill Cemetery, with Elder Noah Poole officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard and VFW 2591. Pallbearers will be Gary Willis, Darin Cline, Terrance Cline, Matt Sims, Michael Hawkins and Rodney Gilmore. Friends and family are welcome to gather from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
