Michael Charles Smith, aged 57, of McLeansville went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 15, 2024. Michael was born on June 27, 1966, to James W. Smith and Garnet M. Smith of McLeansville.
He is survived by his brother James (DeEtta) Smith Jr., sister Nichole (Steven) Heintz, nieces Brittany (Casey) Raynor, Miranda Smith, and Bryce Smith, nephews Nathan Heintz and Ryan Heintz, great nephew Carter Raynor, uncles, aunts, and many cousins.
Michael was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents Dallas Plumley, Violet and Archie Knott and paternal grandparents Samuel and Leva Smith.
Michael was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, and friend. Michael was the best uncle to his nieces and nephews whom he adored. He took extra time to teach them, include them, and spend time with them. He really was a second father figure to all of his nieces and nephews.
To know Michael was to love and appreciate him. Michael helped everyone he could and will be missed by all who knew him. Michael had a special place in his heart for animals and shared a special bond with all the family pets.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Michael was a member of the Guilford Bowhunters Association for nearly 30 years. He served on the council and was in charge of membership rental of the clubhouse. He currently holds the North Carolina state record for largest typical turkey taken with compound bow. But most important to him were the relationships he made along the way with his fellow outdoorsmen. Michael had a caring heart for children and helped mentor youth and the disabled in bowhunting and outdoor safety. In addition to hunting, Michael loved fishing and riding ATVs. Michael had owned his own roofing, siding, and windows business for many years plus had recently started his own lawncare business. His quality of work and generosity far exceeded expectations.
One of Michael’s proudest days in recent years was the day that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. In many ways Michael was a private person but he frequently shared his testimony about his relationship with Christ.
The impact he leaves on his family and friends could never be replicated.
A memorial service will be held at the Guilford Bowhunters club on Saturday April 20th at 1:00 pm located at 6053 Rock Quarry Road McLeansville. The family will greet his friends from 11:30-12:30 prior to the memorial service at the Guilford Bowhunters club. A graveside service will be held on Monday April 22nd at 1:00 PM at Smith Graham Cemetery in Hinton West Virginia. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery on Monday.
