Michael Alan Stegall, aged 83, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on April 16, 1942 in Natchez, Mississippi but spent the majority of his childhood in Vidalia, Louisiana. Mike graduated from Vidalia High School where his interest in music led him to participate in the band. He furthered his education at Louisiana State University where he was a proud member of the Golden Band from Tigerland.
Mike's career reflected his love for nature. He dedicated many years to the Jackson Zoo, and both the old and new Mississippi Museums of Natural Science. His efforts contributed significantly to wildlife conservation and education. He had an active part in the design of the aquariums at both museums. He took great pride in collecting native fish species, and the aquascaping of his tanks at the museums.
Mike was a devoted husband and best friend to Judy, his wife of 35 years. He was a loving step-father who always made his step-children a priority in his life.
Mike is survived by his wife, Judy, and step-children, Susan Baumgart (Rodney), Patrick Dodge (Kay), and Edwin Dodge. He was a cherished grandfather to Will and Brendon Dodge. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Leone Stegall.
Known for his passion for classical music and his specialized interest in longear sunfish, Mike found joy in these pursuits, which reflected his deep appreciation for both the arts and the natural world.
His life will be remembered for his dedication to his friends and family, his passion for his hobbies, and his sense of humor, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
In respect of Mike's wishes, his family will be honoring him in private.
