MICHAEL LEE STEINBERG

STEINBERG, Michael Lee Age 82, passed away on February 22, 2025. Michael was the son of Beryl (Nee Harris) and Saul Steinberg and the late Dick Whitman. Mike was born in Cambridge, MA, and raised in nearby Newton. He attended the Ward Elementary School and Kimball Union Academy. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1964, becoming the first hockey goalie at the school when it became an intercollegiate sport. While at UVM, Mike got the nickname "Stinky" from his Phi Sigma Delta buddies, which remained with him his whole life! After college, Mike attended Officer's Training School in Rhode Island, entered the US Navy as an ensign for 3 ½ years stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and left as an LTJG. Mike married Susie Bernheimer in 1965, had two children, Stu and Sharon, and eventually settled and raised his family in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He was in the leather business and was a great salesperson with a wonderful personality, a storyteller, and a jokester. He loved playing gin with his UVM friends and was a proud member of Kernwood Country Club in Salem for over 40 years, where he did quite a bit of golfing and socializing. Mike loved all the sports teams in Boston and was an avid fan of all sports, but especially the Patriots and the Bruins, with his hockey background. Mike was even a referee for youth hockey games in his 20s and 30s! Mike and Susie traveled the world, having many amazing adventures. Mike loved his family, and their well-being was the most important thing to him. He is survived by his wife Susie, Son Stu and wife Kristine of Newburyport, daughter Sharon and Paul of Boston, and five grandchildren: Drew, Hannah, Jade Steinberg, Lex, and Louise Shiner. Mike also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nieces. Funeral services on Tuesday, February 25, 2005, at the Sharon Memorial Park Chapel, 120 Canton Street, Sharon at 10:00 am.
