Michael Joseph Stewart, a beloved husband, father, papaw, brother, passed away on December 3, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 23,1950, in New Albany, Indiana. Mike led a life filled with warmth, kindness, and an unyielding spirit of camaraderie that touched everyone he encountered.
A proud graduate of Floyd Central High School in 1968, Mike embarked on a rewarding career as a truck driver for Gulf Oil, where he dedicated over 20 years to his profession. He later brought joy and care to his community through his work at Jacobi’s as a carwash man for more than seven years. Known for his unwavering work ethic, Mike would often greet his coworkers and customers with a smile, embodying his belief that he “never met a stranger.”
Family was the cornerstone of Mike's life. He enjoyed precious moments with his beautiful bride of 52 years, Sheila Stewart, who brought joy and companionship into his days. Together, they raised their son, Shawn Stewart, and their daughter, Jamie Stewart, instilling in them the values of love and unity. Mike's legacy lives on in his grandson and best buddy, Michael Alex Stewart, who was a source of immense pride and joy for him. He also shared a strong bond with his brother, Richard (Debbie) Stewart, as well as his Uncle, Ronald Shewmaker, Aunt, Kay Shultz, and several cherished nieces and nephews.
Mike's interests were as vibrant as his personality. He cherished family game nights, and was an avid NASCAR fan, where his passion for racing mirrored his zest for life. He found great joy during family trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, creating lasting memories amidst the beautiful mountains.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Betty (Shewmaker) Stewart, whose guidance and love molded him into the man he became.
His impact on all who knew him cannot be overstated. Loved ones will gather to celebrate his extraordinary life on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana. Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 7:00 PM.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His charming spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched, reminding us all to cherish each moment, embrace our loved ones, and live with the same kindness and open heart that he exemplified every day of his life.
The family requests that contributions in Mike’s memory be made to donor's choice.
