Michael Dennis Stoher, 77, rode off into the sunset on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
He was born on Christmas Day 1947 to the late Chester Eugene and Virginia Louise Shoemaker Stoher in Ottumwa, Iowa.
He had three older sisters, Carol Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, Linda Duckworth, (deceased) of Tucson, Arizona; and Patty Hurley of Ottumwa, Iowa. As the youngest, Michael may have been a tad spoiled! He grew up, got smart, and married his beautiful bride, Judith Harris McCarthy of Staunton, and this union continued - 36 years strong.
He is also survived by Michael Dennis Stoher II and Monique Graham of Beaverdam, VA, Glen Frank Stoher and Mandy Stoher of Church Road, VA, and Kena McCarthy Christ and William J. Christ of Staunton, VA.
The latest count on offspring is eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Most of said offspring know that their Opa had magical powers with gummy bears and that there may or may not be an alligator in Opa’s and Oma’s basement?
When not performing magic, Michael was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He had a career as a service manager and car salesman for over 30 years. His additional talents included any handyman skills needed - from building houses to repairing vehicles. He also loved the outdoors and riding horses. He especially loved the years spent camping and trail riding on his trusty horse, Lucky.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 PM.
To say he will be missed is an understatement! He lives on in us.
Rest in peace, cowboy!
