Michael Pleas Surls

Mr. Michael Pleas Surls of Hawaii, 69, a former resident of Walnut Creek, CA for 63 years, died unexpectedly on July 18, 2025. He was the son of the late Joseph and Joan Surls of Kailua-Kona, HI.

A 1974 graduate from Ygnacio Valley High School, and a 1977 graduate from Los Medanos College. Mr. Surls went on to work as an Operations Manager at Harbor Bay communications, ICG communications, Xspedius communications, and was promoted to Sr. Engineer at True Position and retired as Sr. Engineer II with T-Mobile. After retiring in 2019, he and his wife Stephanie built their dream home in Hawaii, where he earned the nickname "Kona-Mike"; he was known for his annual rock-n-roll shindigs and was well liked by all his friends and neighbors and became Ka Mahina to the islands.

Mike was avid golfer, fisherman, and outdoorsman. Some of his favorite joys in life were listening to music and getting to spend time with his grandchildren. Michael is survived by his loving wife Stephanie of 48 years, and his children Joseph, Samantha, and Jessica. Forever cherished and remembered by his four grandchildren, Chelsea, Kathryn, Summer, and Bradley. His beloved dog Koa, and his grand-dogs Maui-boo, Fiona and Piper. His love and his memory will be engrained in our hearts forever.

All are invited to attend the funeral service at Oak Park Hills Chapel 3111 N Main St, Walnut Creek, CA on Friday August 1, 2025. A viewing will be held from 12:00-2:00PM and the funeral service from 2:00-4:00PM. Followed by a celebration of life gathering starting around 4:30PM at The Greenery 1551 Marchbanks Dr, Walnut Creek CA 94598.
