Michael Edward Sweeten, II, born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on October 18, 2001 passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Michael attended Hartford School District until its closing and graduated from Hackett High School. He worked as a wire drawer for Bekaert in Van Buren. He was the Fire Chief for the Midland Rural Fire Department, where he worked diligently with his department and the surrounding departments to make our community a better place. He always put others above himself and dedicated his life to making a difference. He was loved by so many, and will be missed by even more.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandfather, Carl Sweeten. He is survived by the love of his life, Lauren Poston; his parents, Tammy and Terry Norris and Michael and Audra Sweeten; grandparents, Lloyd Morris and Betty Morris and Ricki Schoen; three sisters, Lauren Sweeten, Aubree Sweeten and Audumn Brown; one brother, Alexzander Barber; aunts and uncles, Ricky and Leann Morris, Keith and Jamie Jennings and Cory Sweeten; many cousins and extended family and a multitude of friends and loved ones.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 8 at Midland Assembly of God Church with burial at Mount Olive Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Sunday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 4 – 6 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Walker, Payton Sweeten, Zach Gragg, Kyle Reason, Greyson Dorsey and Dylan Kats. Honorary pallbearers will be the Midland and Hartford Rural Fire Departments.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Fire Department, P.O. Box 58, Midland, AR 72945.
