Michael R. Thompson, 47, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 1:40 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, IL.
He was born on February 21, 1977 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Richard C. and Patricia (Chewning) Thompson. Michael was raised and educated in rural Monmouth and attended Union School and later Yorkwood High School.
Michael married Charity Sanders on December 23, 2019 in Monmouth, IL; she survives.
Michael owned and operated Mike Thompson Trucking and Heavy Equipment for many years. He also farmed and liked metal fabrication work. Mike served as the Hale Township Road Commissioner for three years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and cooking. He enjoyed traveling with his family on snowmobile trips to Michigan, Alabama and Wisconsin yearly. Mike also loved the special anniversary trips he would take with his wife. He was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed showing his 1959 El Camino. He was always there to lend a helping hand to others. Most of all, Mike loved to spend time with his family, especially his children.
Surviving Mike is his wife, Charity Thompson of Monmouth, IL; five children, Hannah Thompson, Emily Thompson, Addison Thompson, Rowen Thompson, Phoebe Thompson all of Monmouth, IL; his mother, Patricia Thompson of Kirkwood, IL; his siblings; Christel Thompson of Los Angeles, CA, Laura (Ray Johnson) Thompson of Monmouth, IL; two nieces, Jolie Johnson of Monmouth, IL, Claire Stokes of Kirkwood, IL; two nephews, Spencer Stokes and Matthew Stokes of Kirkwood, IL; one sister-in-law, Seahairra (Jacob) Stokes of Kirkwood, IL; and his best friend, Joey Jones of Monmouth, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Thompson, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and father like mentor, Donnie Bundy.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2024 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to the Michael Thompson Memorial Fund for his children’s education and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
