Michael Thompson

Michael Thompson, 68, of McHenry, passed away on September 1, 2025. A free spirit with a sharp wit, Mike found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved the open road, NASCAR, and the sound of Johnny Cash and Jimmy Buffett on the radio. Known for always having a joke ready, he was the kind of man who could make anyone laugh.

Mike's hands were rarely still. From a young age he loved working on cars, and that passion stayed with him throughout his life. Whether under the hood, tinkering in the garage, or proudly showing off his 1987 Mercedes 420 SEL-complete with ashtrays in every door-he had a knack for fixing and building.

Above all, Mike treasured his family. He was the beloved son of the late Richard and Jean Thompson, who he cherished deeply. He is survived by his siblings Terry Patti and Lynn (Randy) Carlson; his children Brittany (Dan Zaruszak) Thompson, Ashley (Tom) Takoy, and Richard (Kelly) Thompson; and his treasured grandchildren, Dominic, Carter, Millie, Noah Jet, and Sadie Belle. Mike shared 40 years of marriage with Cheryl Thompson, a relationship that shaped much of his life and family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, Illinois.

Mike lived on his own terms with grit, humor, and heart. His laughter and love will live on in his friends, family, children, and grandchildren. May he rest in peace.
