It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Edward Thornfield, a devoted husband and the ultimate hero to his three boys, who passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025.

To his colleagues at the Long Beach Police Department, he was Officer Thorny, a trusted and tireless public servant for 20 years. To his family, he was Dad, a loving husband, an incredible father, and the person who could always be counted on for a laugh or guidance.

Born April 18th, 1942, Michael found his passion for service early in life. A short term in the Army led him to law enforcement. He was known for his calm demeanor, whether on patrol or building genuine relationships with those he served.

Beyond his professional life, his greatest joy was his wife Norma, who sadly passed before him. He was a devoted and active father, known for always wanting to go fishing. He taught his sons the importance of hard work, kindness, and standing up for what is right.

He is survived by his three sons, Edward, Adam, and David, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered with profound respect and admiration for his life of service, humor, and love, which impacted the lives of countless others.
