Michael Ulmer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel & Gardens on Feb. 27, 2026.
Michael James Ulmer of Buford, Georgia passed away at Emory John's Creek Hospital on Friday, February 18, 2026 with his wife and his brother at his side.

He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 9,1969 to James Dearl Ulmer and Pamela Ann Ulmer (Armstrong) at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kathryn; son Jonah (Emily Sandall) of Washington D.C.; parents James & Pamela Ulmer of Mansfield, Pennsylvania; brother Jason (Jaimee Ulmer) of Suwanee, Georgia, sister Emily (Brandon Burleigh) of Elmira Heights,

New York and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was always a supporter and focal point for his family, friends, and colleagues. There was no one you'd rather have in your corner when things were difficult. He was larger than life. He filled the room. He loved to tease and joke, and he could easily spend hours talking with you, mixing stories with advice.

He loved to watch sports, especially football and tennis-two sports he played as a younger man. He was frugal in many areas of his life, but his love for cars, watches, and big TVs overrode that frugality.

Mike always found a way to be his own boss. From starting a company at 21, to becoming a consultant and moving to China at 30, to running businesses with his brother Jason and his wife Kath through his 40s and 50s, he always had an idea of what might be next and had the ability to rally anyone to go after it with him.

He was a proud father, crazy uncle, devoted son, caring brother, and loving husband who will be remembered fondly by all those he touched throughout his incredible life and journey.

A public service will not be held. Mike will be remembered privately by close family at his and Kath's home.

In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, those who wish to honor Mike's memory are encouraged to gather with family or friends and share a meal. He loved time around the table with family, friends, and colleagues and was often the one who brought the energy, the conversation, and the connection. Calling someone you love and making time to be together is a fitting tribute to his life.
