Michael F. Van De Wiel, 78, of Platteville, WI died Saturday, August 23, 2025 due to complications of Parkinsons Disease. A celebration of Michael's life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville, WI. Michael was born on March 8, 1947, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Ralph and Virginia (Sloan) Van De Wiel. He was a graduate of Platteville High School in 1965. Mike was united in marriage to Chris (Copus) Dusseau on November 26th 1988 in Platteville. Mike had many jobs in his younger years, but he is best remembered from working as a custodian for 30 years for the Platteville School District. After retiring he worked part-time delivering parts for NAPA and O'Reilly Auto Parts. Mike was also an EMT in Platteville for 13 years.

Mike loved playing Euchre, but always seemed to win the "boobie prize", He enjoyed many weekends watching stock car races and tractor pulls with his brother Fred. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family until his health started to fail several years ago. Mike especially enjoyed following his grandchildren in their school activities and sporting events and was always their loudest cheerleader. He also loved watching old westerns on TV, especially Gunsmoke. Mike always enjoyed visiting and telling stories which one never knew what to believe as he had a great poker face. Mike's family was very important to him and he loved them more than they will ever know.

Michael is survived by his wife, Chris; his children, Melissa Van De Wiel, Angela (Mike) Dusseau-Gillen and Brandon (Samantha) Dusseau-Everhart, sisters, Patricia Ruchti and Jolene Appenzeller, brother, Fred (Janice) Van De Wiel, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his dog, Ceasar. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne, Justin, Ralph and Georgie; brothers-in-law, Bob Jansen, Earl Appenzeller and Paul Ruchti and nephew, Jesse Van De Wiel.

A special thanks to St. Croix Hospice and the staff at Lancaster Care Center for their compassionate care over the last few months.
