Born into the loving arms of his mother, Rose Campbell, and a father whose name remains unknown, Michael's early years were shaped by the guiding hands of his grandparents, John Waldrop and Carrell Hurst Waldrop. Though he experienced the loss of his beloved sister, Brenda Mitchell, and his cherished nephew, Brandon Walter, Michael's capacity for love only grew stronger, propelling him through life's challenges with a resilient spirit.
A devoted father, Michael's pride and joy were his children, Amanda Phillips (Chris) of
Alexander City, AL, and son, Michael Phillips. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, evident in the strong bonds he shared with his grandchildren, Josh (Lanoah) Lumpkin, Haley (Mitchell) Corley, and Zackery Lumpkin, as well as his nine great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness. His sisters, Patty McVey, Tina Hanna, and Janice Milner, along with his three nieces and four nephews, will carry forward the memories of his unwavering support and endless affection.
Michael's passion for life was paralleled by his dedication to his community, most notably through his years spent coaching youth football, where he not only shaped the skills but also the character of his grandson Josh and countless other young athletes. His love for the game was matched by his fervor for Auburn football and wrestling, pastimes that he relished with an enthusiasm that was contagious to all around him.
An avid fisherman, Michael found solace and joy in the quietude of nature. His love for vacations was a testament to his belief in the value of new experiences and the importance of taking time to savor life's simple pleasures.
