Michael Walsh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Athy Memorial Home - Worcester on Feb. 14, 2026.
Michael Walsh, born October 17, 1947, passed away on February 2, 2026, peacefully after a brief illness while in the care of Oakdale Rehabilitation Center/JHC Hospice in West Boylston. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late Catherine McManus Bombard and Michael Walsh.

Known to many as "Mad Dog," Michael lived an adventurous life marked by many ups and downs. He experienced the world in his own way, leaving stories, memories, and impressions that will not be forgotten by those who knew him. Michael's life was one of resilience, complexity, and spirit.

Michael dedicated part of his life to helping others battling addiction through his work at AdCare and Genesis House in Worcester, Massachusetts. Drawing from his own journey of recovery, he shared his personal stories to inspire hope, strength, and perseverance, helping many find their way through difficult times.

Michael often spoke of how fortunate he was to have his late cousin, Joseph B. Finnegan, who in Michael's later years served as his devoted caretaker and companion. He also deeply loved the visits and compassion shared by his cousin Rosemary Ford, Meghan (Finnegan) Mello, and his lifelong friend and cousin, Bobby Fraser, which brought him comfort and connection. In addition, Michael was blessed with daily love and devotion from his nursing home caregiver, Joanne, whose kindness and companionship meant a great deal to him.

Michael is also survived by his niece, Tammy Belculfine.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Catherine, and his cherished sister, Donna Stancyk.

Michael will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and the unmistakable mark he left on the lives he touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 228 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Burial will immediately follow at Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
