Michael Warren Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc. - Canastota on Jan. 6, 2026.
Michael R. Warren, Sr., 68, of Canastota, NY, formerly of Binghamton, NY, died suddenly on January 2, 2026. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Wesley L. Warren Jr. and Norma L. Snow-Warren; sisters Marlyn L. Warren and Margaret L. Gladhill; and stepson Joseph M. Nickerson. He is survived by his wife, Francine A. Stracuzzi-Warren; son Michael R. Warren Jr.; stepdaughter Kate F. McKay and her husband James G. McKay; granddaughter Zoey F. McKay; brother Wesley L. Warren III; and many nieces and nephews. Michael was surrounded throughout his life by an extraordinary circle of friends who will miss him deeply. Among them were Ray and Carol Baldwin, Joseph Johnson, Billy Lewis, the members of his beloved Breakfast Club, affectionately known as "the Peeps," and his cherished work wife, Melinda Marriott, who helped make each workday better. A graduate of Binghamton Central High School, Michael earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Franklin Pierce College and a Master of Social Work from the Albany School of Social Work. His career reflected a deep commitment to service, working as a social worker and drug and alcohol counselor, including time as the Homeless Outreach Worker for Broome County. Michael later joined New York State DOCS, serving at Marcy and Mid-State Correctional Facilities, where he was especially proud of creating and leading a program for incarcerated veterans. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Michael had been riding since his teenage years. He was a dedicated Mason, achieving the 33rd degree in the Scottish Rite and serving as Master of Masonic Lodge #147 in Binghamton. He was also a member of Lodge #305 in Fayetteville, NY. Though Baptist by birth, Michael respected and honored all faiths and believed deeply in a power greater than ourselves. With heritage spanning many nations, including Irish roots, his spirit is best captured by the blessing, "May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're gone." Enjoy the fellowship above, my friend, until we meet again. Funeral services will be held in the spring, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Agatha's Church c/o Spirit of Hope Catholic Community, 121 St. Joseph Place, Oneida, NY 13421, or to the Loaves & Fish Food Pantry c/o Saints John and Andrew Catholic Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13903. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 S. Peterboro Street, Canastota, NY 13032. Mike will be missed...he always found a way to be positive, sincere and would lighten any room he walked into. I always appreciated his humor and respected him as a fellow social worker. Wherever you are, thank you for being so genuine and living to your values.
