Michael Wells Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society - Greater Kansas City, Missouri - Rayt on Feb. 18, 2026.
Michael Albert Wells, 67, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep, going to his heavenly home with Jesus, on February 9, 2026 at his home. Mike was born in Independence on August 10, 1958, to Glen E. and Carol I. (Dike) Wells. When Mike was 2, his biological father, Glen, went into the army and subsequently lost contact after his parents divorced. His mother met and married Robert C. Carman, Sr., who became Mike's "dad" and raised him. They built a blended family with the addition of two half-siblings. Mike remained especially close to his mother's side of the family, all cousins were close, more like siblings. When his mother's health failed, Mike lovingly cared for her.

Mike was taught about our Lord Jesus by his Granny, whom he spent a lot of time with until her passing, and also by his mother. He came to know, love, and accept Jesus as his savior. As a teenager, Mike developed a love for travel and explored the USA. During his travels, he met and married Katherine Elizabeth Taylor in Harrison County, Gulfport, Mississippi. They had a son, Joshua. Later, through a relationship with the Lammers family, Mike gained lifelong in-laws, Byron and Paul Lammers. Byron, with his wife Heather, cared for Mike in the last months of his life at their home.

Mike loved sports. He worked diligently at baseball, missing the game that was the tryout for the majors. An avid sports fan, he loved the KC Royals, KC Chiefs, but was also a fan of the Steelers. Racing also held his heart, and he loved Dale Earnhardt.

Mike was a skilled roofer as an independent contractor, roofing in the metro area and following storms, doing repairs, to assist people back into their homes. In later years, Mike became an OTR truck driver, driving cross-country, until his health started to fail and he retired.

In his youth, going to the lake with grandpa or as a family was a big deal. Always fun, family times. In the 2000's, like his grandpa and other family members had, he moved to the lake, grandpa's "Dikeville", along with his aunt Linda and cousins in his tiny home. After retirement, Mike also spent time in New York with his son and family. Deciding to return to Missouri, he shared a home with his cousin, Sherry Terry, in Cross Timbers, Missouri. As his health further declined, Byron (Heather) moved him to their home in Independence.

Family preceding him in death, are his parents Bob and Carol Carman; his sister Buffy Rene, and her unborn child; his brother Robert C. Carman, Jr.; his granny Ona (Atkinson) (Dike) Corder; grandfather Albert E. Dike; his step-grandmother V. Juanita Dike; his aunt Linda Woods, aunt Frankie Snelling, aunt Ila Burke, uncle Ralph Carman, uncle Robert Paxton, uncle Virgil Snelling, cousins Sherry Terry, Kenny Wilkerson, James David Snelling and Vickie (Snelling) Smith.

Survivors include his son, Joshua (Angelique Wheeler); his grandchildren Jaden, Elenore, an unborn grandson Wells; mother of Joshua, Katherine Elizabeth Wells, all of New York; his niece Brittnay Oliver; great-niece Miracle Oliver; family Byron (Heather) and Paul Lammers; cousins Debbie Wilkerson, Linda Stillwell, Donna Parke, Don Stilwell, Larry Oldham, LouAnn Oliver, Sharon Webb (Gregg) all of Missouri, except Don, Oklahoma; Uncle Billy Burke, Sugar Creek, Missouri, other cousins, and friends.

Michael Albert leaves a treasure of memories, fun, good times, and family with great love. He will be remembered, loved, and missed.

Cremation has been entrusted to Heartland Cremation & Burial Society. Mike's wishes will be honored with a Celebration of Life, at the lake, to be announced in June or July 2026.
