Michael Stewart Whatley, age 83, of Austonio, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024. Michael was born November 14, 1940 in Houston to parents Woodrow Wilson Whatley and Greta Pauline Stewart Whatley. He retired as Post Master of the Madisonville Post Office. He had numerous hobbies over the years; archery, photography, wood working and restoration, playing guitar, depression glass collecting, deer hunting, and bass fishing. He loved to travel to see the mountains and wildlife and made several photography trips to the Mountain States. He loved
Lovelady Lions sports and bull riding.
Michael is survived by wife of 63 years, Darlene Whatley of Austonio; son, Shane Whatley and wife, Norma of Houston; daughter, Cindy Cosgrove and husband, Keith of Austonio; grandchildren, Josh Purcell of Vacaville, CA, Chris Cosgrove and wife, Joanna of Abilene, Ryan Whatley and wife, Serena of Dallas, Rachel Brewton and husband, Steven of Kingwood, Aaron, Hannah, Emily, Kara, and Logan Day of Texas City; great-grandson, Grayson Whatley of Dallas; sisters, Paula Spicher of Santa Fe, TN, Annette Jackson of Austonio, and numerous other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Woodrow and Pauline Whatley; and sister, Martha Desormeaux.
Memorial services for Michael Stewart Whatley will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Everett Nix officiating. Visitation will be at 12 noon prior to service.
