Michael Wiater Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Berlin Memorial Funeral Home - Kensington on Apr. 10, 2024.
Michael A. Wiater, 68, of Berlin, loving husband of Karoll (Banulski) Wiater, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.
Michael, born on December 19, 1955, and raised in New Britain, CT, was son to the late Anthony Wiater and Stella (Madrak) Wiater. After graduating from New Britain High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wesleyan University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. While working at Northeast Utilities, Mike met and married the love of his life and spent the remainder of his years building a family in Berlin, CT. Although his career was spent in finance for Northeast Utilities and PSE&G of New Jersey, his passions were many. Upon retirement, he spent many hours a week supporting local charities through volunteering. His love for travel, golf, kayaking in Rhode Island, reading, cooking, trying new beers, card nights, and concerts, to name a few, were only surpassed by the chance to spend time with family and friends, whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his wife, Karoll, he is survived by his children Nicholas (Vivian) Wiater and Stephanie Wiater; his cherished grandchildren Braden Michael and Emersyn; his sister-in-law Luz Stella Wiater; two nieces; Michelle and Vanessa and nephews; grandnieces; and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Wiater.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington, Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, from the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington. Interment will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Michael may be made to Save the Children (https://www.savethechildren.org/) or the Pacreatic Cancer Action Network (https://secure.pancan.org/site/SPageServer/?pagename=purplestride_home).
