Mr. James Michael Widener, 71, a retired Lead Electrician for Berkeley County, died Sunday evening in a North Charleston hospital.
His funeral will be 2:00 PM, Monday afternoon, April 28, 2025, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday evening, April 27, 2025. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or to Changed Lives Ministry, PO Box 1737, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
Mr. Widener was born November 22, 1953, in Charleston, SC, a son of Jasper Phillips Widener and Mary Elizabeth O'Quinn Widener. He was a retired tour boat guide and security guard for Cypress Gardens. In his spare time he enjoyed coin collecting, buying and restoring antique cars, and vacationing to the mountains and the beach. Mr. Widener was mostly known for his beautiful oil paintings that he began creating in his teenage years. He loved his family and was married to his high school sweetheart for fifty years. Mr. Widener was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Donna Widener and Tammy Belanger.
Surviving are his wife Cindy Smith Widener; a son, Jamie Preston Widener (Sophia) of Moncks Corner; two brothers, Phillip Widener and his wife Sylvia of Summerville and Tim Widener of North Charleston; three grandchildren Alexis M. Ware (Daniel), Coleman Scott White, Jasper Zane Widener; two great grandchildren, Aubree Rose Ware and Camden Daniel Ware; a former daughter-in-law, Nicolle Widener; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved fur babies, Holly and Chloe.
