Michael David Wiley

Michael David Wiley of Hawthorne, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at age 78. Born in Chesterhill Ohio, Michael was raised in Marysville, OH, before moving to Indianapolis, IN.
In Indianapolis, Michael faithfully served as Branch Manager for O'Hanlon Reports for over 22 years. He was the youngest branch manager in their history.
He then moved to Ridgewood and later to Hawthorne, NJ. In Fair Lawn, NJ, Michael Wiley assumed leadership of the national insurance inspection company, General Information Services. He proudly served as its President and Chief Executive Officer for over 25 years.
For the nearly three decades that he resided in New Jersey, Michael Wiley offered his leadership to many organizations including Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company. There, he served as business manager, stage crew and even performed many walk-on roles.
Michael Wiley was an avid sailor. He was a long-time member of the Awosting Yacht Squadron and recently joined the Hudson Water Club. He regularly participated in sailing races on Greenwood Lake. He also captained multiple memorable voyages to the British Virgin Islands with his family.
Michael Wiley had many eclectic interests and hobbies. He especially enjoyed model railroading, reading classic literature and history. He was also a member of the Fair Lawn and Hawthorne Gun Clubs.
Michael Wiley was particularly proud of having read the "100 Greatest Books Ever Written", along with many others. Never to shrink from a challenge, at age 74, Michael traveled to Pamplona, Spain and ran with the bulls!
But above all, Michael Wiley loved and enjoyed his family. Along with his beloved wife, Janet, together they encouraged and strengthened all their family. Always eager and enthusiastic to be involved and offer support, Michael regularly attended his granddaughters' activities, horse riding lessons, soccer games, track, marching band, rowing races, school open houses, and indeed, any endeavor. If it was important to his family, it was important to him.
Michael highly valued time with family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate holidays big and small. Whether it was honoring Christmas tradition with figgy pudding and the granddaughters taking turns reading Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" or throwing an overflowing St Patrick's Day party, Michael cherished them all.
Michael Wiley is survived by his wife, Janet, his sons James of Cornwall, NY and Todd of Ringwood, NJ, his daughters-in-law Frocine and Suzanne, and his granddaughters Elizabeth, Victoria, Catherine and Rosemary. He is also survived by his sidekick dog, Winston.
Michael Wiley is also survived by his sister Linda Hullenkremer, his nieces Stacy and Kristy, Kristy's sons Christopher and Nicholas and his brother-in-law Earl Wolff and his wife Brenda.
Cremation will be private. Funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 12:00pm to 2:30pm. At 2:30pm, a memorial is scheduled where anyone who would like to say a few words is welcome. In keeping with Michael's love for life, there will also be bagpipes.
