Michael Wilhelm Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 26, 2026.
Michael "Mike" Lawrence Wilhelm, 77, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on February 23, 2026 in his beloved home where he resided the past 50 years.

Mike was born on January 19, 1949, in Minneapolis to Lawrence "Larry" and Marie Wilhelm. A proud graduate of Cooper High School, he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant until honorably discharged in 1972.

Mike spent his career in the fire protection industry, where he started his own small business. He was known for his honesty, integrity, and the many strong relationships he built along the way. Many of those friendships lasting throughout his lifetime.

Above all else, Mike loved his family. He found his greatest joy in coaching and watching his sons and grandchildren play sports, rarely missing a game. Mike had a lifelong love of baseball, comics, chocolate, and laughter. He was famous for his giant bowls of ice cream after nearly every meal, a simple treat that brought him great happiness.

Mike will be remembered for his friendly spirit, quick sense of humor, patience, and deep compassion for others. He had an easy way about him that made people feel welcome and valued.

He is survived by his longtime partner, Margaret "Peggy" MacMillian; his sons, Jason Wilhelm and Jordan Wilhelm (Alexis); his granddaughter, Brynn Casey; his grandson, Oliver Wilhelm; and his sister, Suzanne Wilhelm (Krysti Hunt). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marie Wilhelm and widow, Sheila Wilhelm (Jacobson).

Plans for a memorial service to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charitable organization of your choice in Mike's name.
