Michael Dana Winstead, 70, of Oakland, passed away on August 19, 2025, at Dennett Rehab Center. Born on May 16, 1955, in Rocky Mount, NC, he was the son of the late Phil Winstead and Peggy (Stanley) Winstead.
In 1974, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he became a truck driver, completing long-haul trips across the United States and Canada, visiting all 48 contiguous states, often accompanied by his wife, Edna. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed watching westerns on television, particularly Perry Mason, and had a keen interest in history.
He is survived by two sons, Phillip Winstead of Hays, KS, and Dana Winstead of McCook, NE; a daughter, Amanda Nelson of Salina, KS; three grandchildren; a brother, Kelvin Stanley Winstead; and his ex-wife, Edna Palineau, who cared for him and remained by his side for the last 20 years.
There are no services scheduled at this time. Mike will be laid to rest at Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
