Michael Yeager

Michael Thaddeus Rutledge Yeager went home to God at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, Houston TX, around 1:30pm, Thu.4.Dec.2025, in the loving presence of his brother Scott.

An alcohol and drug abuse counselor and therapist, he died with 53 years clean and sober in anonymous 12-step programs. He was born in Minneapolis MN on 15.Feb.1949. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary, Sacred Heart Elementary, St. Thomas High, and graduated from Marian High in Houston in 1968. He received his BA from Loretto Heights University, Denver CO, in 1980, and pursued further education in his chosen field of recovery care.

A charismatic, powerful and direct speaker and healer, Mike held numerous specialty treatment competency certificates in the world of alcohol and addiction therapy. He loved riding inner-tubes on the Comal River in New Braunfels in childhood. He loved music - he delighted in attending the first Beatles concert at the Coliseum. He loved surfing at Freeport. He loved the mountains of Colorado. He loved art of all kinds. He met Mr. Rogers' recommendation to "Look for the helpers" by being one. He assisted tens of thousands of people in his professional practice and in the 12-step rooms. A collector of Native American art and artifacts, as well as modern abstract works, Mike's house was impeccable and arranged like a peaceful museum sanctuary. A foundational member of a David Hawkins study and discussion group, he attended it almost every week for several decades. He was an active, long-term member of the Spring Branch Memorial Club.

He was predeceased by his father, Francis Scott Yeager, and mother, Eileen McCarty Yeager. He is survived by five brothers and sisters, Jamie, Mary-o, Scott, Nicky and Delia; one child, Sabin Lahey, and two grandchildren, Taylor and Adara; four nephews, one niece, and 8 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was common-law-divorced from Debby Leahy.

His ashes will be scattered at sea; his headstone will be placed in the family plot at Glenwood Cemetery, Houston. A celebration of his life will be held at the Spring Branch Memorial Club, 1200 Blalock Rd, Unit 378, Houston, TX 77055. Donations in Mike's memory should go to whatever cause, institution or people will fulfill the practice of "pay it forward."
