Michele "Mimi" M. McGarry (nee Mitchell), passed away on July 19, 2023 at age 67 at University of Cincinnati Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mimi, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was born on May 19, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ralph and Joanne Mitchell. She graduated from Ursuline Academy High School and received a degree in Communications from the University of Dayton in 1978.
Mimi began her career at Delta Airlines where, over several years she progressed through increasing levels of management eventually becoming Call Center Director in the Cincinnati office. During her time at Delta, Mimi and her family traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She was later employed by the Greater Cincinnati Water Works in the position of Customer Contact Center Manager until her retirement in 2022. Throughout her working career Mimi was respected by her colleagues for constantly being upbeat with a can-do, pleasant and congenial demeanor.
Over the years Mimi and her family enjoyed vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains, the coast of Maine and Hilton Head, South Carolina. She particularly enjoyed visiting her in-laws' family camp in the Adirondack Mountains of New York where she became adept at waterskiing, boating and other water sports. Many cherished family memories were made gathered around the evening campfire which abounded with tall stories and laughter.
Mimi's family and many friends will forever admire her utter humility and lack of personal vanity in the way she conducted herself. Memories within her family conjure a beautiful soul who trusted in the power of love without condition or consequence. Her heart bore a sense of care that was universal. She was one who belonged to everyone, except herself. Mimi made the world a better place for those she knew and loved and she will be sorely missed.
She and her husband, Frederick A. McGarry met in college and were married on November 3, 1979. In addition to her husband of 44 years, Mimi is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Rixner (Nick) and Bridget McGarry; two grandchildren Frederick Rixner and Nicholas Rixner; a brother Michael Mitchell (Debbie); and two sisters Catherine Sage (Terry) and Susan Whitford (Kirk). She was predeceased by her brother Mitch.
