Michele Zona Obituary

Michele "Mikey" Zona, 67, died peacefully during the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in her bedroom, surrounded by her many cherished stuffed animals and dolls.

Michele was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, and though she may have been the youngest of the Zona girls, she made every moment she was part of unforgettable. She had a clever sense of humor and kept everyone around her laughing and smiling. Her soul was creative, as she had a gift for both visual arts and music, especially karaoke, which she performed unabashedly everywhere from small-town Massachusetts to the stages of Nashville, Tennessee. Her zeal for life was something she shared with her family and friends whenever she was with them, whether it was on the shores of Cape Cod or on vacations with her siblings in Georgia and Florida. Those who knew her cherish moments of doing jigsaw puzzles, playing with her dolls and stuffed animals, especially her beloved Lassie, drawing and tracing her favorite animals dolphins and unicorns, singing along to Michael Jackson's Thriller, fantasizing about life in Ancient Egypt through stories and books, and sharing her favorite treats, Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla iced coffees, Dairy Queen Blizzards, Jersey Mike's steak and cheese sandwiches, and Chinese food.

She is survived by her siblings, Cheryl Lewis (Wilmot), Linda Donnelly (Paul), Leo Zona (Mary Ann), and Paul Zona (Maura McGonigle). Michele was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Eva (Beals) Zona and a sister, Marsha Carey, whom she spoke of often and missed dearly. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great, great niece. She is cherished by the many faithful friends and acquaintances she made over the years through her participation with Road to Responsibility, South Shore ARC, Work Inc., and BAMSI.

Michele's family expresses their deepest love and gratitude for the employees of her Road to Responsibility home in Norwell. With her housemates, Jodi, Ellen, and Sarah, she celebrated life's biggest and brightest occasions and shared the small joys of daily life like cooking and eating together, going on outings, and having her nails done.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and will conclude with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield. Following the service, interment will be in the Knollwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to ASPCA Tributes, 520 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018 in Michele's honor.
