Michelle Barbara, a beacon of love and optimism, passed away peacefully at her home in Highlands on October 6, 2024, at the age of 58. Born on December 30, 1965, in New York City and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Astoria, Queens, Michelle's spirited nature was evident from a young age. She later moved to New Jersey, where she spent 20 cherished years in Cranbury before she and her beloved husband, Frank, built their dream home in Highlands in 2021.
Michelle's life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, whom she adored above all else. She was the devoted wife of Frank J. Barbara for 25 beautiful years, the loving mother and "mother-in-love" to Victoria and Ben Sanfilippo, and the cherished mother to Jacqueline Barbara. Her sisters, Donna (Howie) Glauber, Barbara Eden, and Susan (Robert) Teofrio, will remember her as the matriarch who held the family together with grace and warmth. Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Gloria Zimmerman, whose legacy of kindness and strength lived on through her.
Professionally, Michelle's career was as diverse and dynamic as she was. Her business acumen led her to become a title agent and mortgage broker, and eventually, she found her calling as a real estate agent with Keller Williams, Ocean Living Realty in Point Pleasant. For a time her entrepreneurial journey even led to a mobile pet grooming service, a reflection of her lifelong love for animals. Michelle's passion for renovation and her flair for decorating knew no limits - epitomized by the home she and Frank built together.
Michelle's heart was as expansive as her interests. She was the personification of love and optimism, always seeing the silver lining in every cloud. Her ability to find the good in every situation was a comfort to all who knew her. Friends and family often sought her counsel, knowing that any problem brought to Michelle would be met with wisdom and a perspective that made the weight of the world seem lighter. Her presence was a bright light that illuminated the lives of those around her.
Her love for animals was boundless, and over the years, Michelle welcomed many strays into her home, providing them with love and shelter. Her menagerie of dogs, horses, and various pets were not just animals in her care but members of her extended family.
Michelle's legacy is one of love, optimism, and spirit. She was the embodiment of these qualities, touching the lives of everyone she met with her infectious enthusiasm for life. Michelle's life will be honored with a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, October 12th from 2 - 5pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St, Belford, where her family and friends will gather to share memories and commemorate the extraordinary woman she was. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light to those she leaves behind, and her memory will be treasured in the hearts of many for generations to come.
