Michelle Dalquist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Edina on Sep. 15, 2021.
Dalquist, Michelle Madeline

March 17th, 1987 - September 10th, 2021. Our sweet Shellers was an ever-present shining star, and the center of our universe for 34 years. Those who truly connected with her were rewarded with a special kind of love that only Michelle could give.

Michelle faced life with grace and courage. Though she was born with many physical limitations from cerebral palsy, she refused to let it bring her spirits down or prevent her from doing the things she loved most. Her strong will, incredible patience and ever-cheerful disposition were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her sharp-as-a-tack mind was always listening and engaged. Missed a detail? Not to worry; Michelle was there to get you up to speed.

Michelle lived with her family, and with their help, she enjoyed an extraordinarily full life, packing more into 34 years than many people can hope to do in a full lifetime. Her favorite activities included traveling with her family to Madeline Island on summer weekends and to southwest Florida in wintertime, art projects of all varieties, time spent outside with the sun on her face and wind in her hair, baking homemade treats for others, going for boat rides, playing dominoes and many other games, bowling, telling stories, anything involving animals, singing along to her favorite music, and just simply enjoying a quiet moment while holding hands with people she cared about.

Those who knew her best will miss Michelle's vivid imagination and playful sense of humor. She kept us entertained with wonderful stories; those who were patient enough to draw them out of her word by word were rewarded with smiles and often laughter and relief. Michelle was a keen listener when people needed someone to talk to, and had definite opinions on a wide variety of topics, which she wasn't afraid to share.

Michelle is sorely missed by her loving parents Martha and David, who devoted their lifetime to Michelle's well-being and care; sister Jenny Dalquist (Andrew Commers), who nurtured Michelle's playful and adventurous spirit, many special caregivers and friends who brought compassion and cheer to Michelle's life; grandmother Dorothy Dalquist, and her many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by her Bapa and Nana (Dr. Albert and Jean Lorenz) and grandfather (H. David Dalquist).

Michelle brought joy to so many people's lives, and will always be remembered for her sparkling, expressive eyes and beautiful smile. She reminded us of what was important in life. Hers was truly a life well-lived, filled with more love and adoration than anyone could ever hope to know.

A private family service is planned. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
