Michelle Hobbs, 57, of Gilman, died on Monday, July 1, 2024 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Phil Culham officiating. A private family Interment will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Continued fellowship and lunch will be held at the Elks in Grinnell.
The family will receive friends at the visitation held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Memorials may be designated to PALS (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter) and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with Michelle's family online at www.smithfh.com.
Michelle Lyn Rasmussen was born the daughter of Leslie and Maxine (Kaisand) Rasmussen on May 6, 1967 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she participated in gymnastics in high school. She received an Associate's degree in nursing later in life, making the Dean's list and graduating with honors, while working and caring for her family.
Michelle was united in marriage to Kevin Hobbs on May 27, 2000 at the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church. The couple was blessed with five children: Jacob, Curtis, Riley, Dallas, and Andrew. They raised their family near Gilman. Michelle was previously employed at GTE, Iowa Telecom. Most recently, she was a RN at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell, where she provided passionate care to residents.
Michelle's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to helping others. She held a natural ability to care for and support those in need. Michelle's commitment to providing comfort and care made a profound difference in the lives of those she served.
Michelle was a strong, resilient, and hardworking woman. Everything she did was in the best interest of her family and friends, ensuring they were always safe and happy. Any adversities she faced in life she handled with the utmost grace. Michelle was adored by her children, and they were her pride and joy. She cherished time spent with the love of her life and soulmate, Kevin. She had a beautiful and caring soul. A friend to all who knew her, she was welcoming, warm, and treated everyone with respect. Michelle was the matriarch and rock of her family. Her presence in the family will be sorely missed. She will be forever loved and never forgotten.
Her hobbies included gardening, morel mushroom hunting, a good scratch off lottery ticket or trip to the casino, and most importantly, spending time with friends and family. She had a deep love for animals and always had multiple pets around the house throughout her life.
Michelle is survived by her husband of 24 years, Kevin Hobbs of Gilman; children, Jacob (Lyndsay) Hobbs of Cedar Rapids, IA, Curtis (Holly) Hobbs of Johnston, IA, Riley Hobbs of Gilman, Dallas (Don) Farber of Bettendorf, IA, and Andrew (Lesley) Hobbs of Grinnell; grandchildren, Mason and Natalie Hobbs, Meagan and Makenna Farber, and Kegan and Kaylee Hobbs; and brother, Rick (Janneke) Rasmussen of Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents.
