Mickey Dwight Maddox, 85, of Alva, Oklahoma, passed away on January 26, 2024 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was born on October 13, 1938, in McPherson, Kansas to Harold and Lois Maddox. Mickey spent his early life in Wichita, Kansas before moving to Houston, Texas where he worked as a security guard for many years. Seeking a quieter life, he relocated to his uncle's farm near Alva, Oklahoma, and joined the glass department of Starr Lumber Company until his retirement.
On February 14, 2003, Mickey was united in marriage with Reva, and together they enjoyed traveling and antiquing, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Mickey had a passion for old machinery and equipment, particularly John Deere tractors. He was an active member of the John Deere 2 Cylinder Tractor Club in Fairview, Oklahoma, where he helped plan their annual tractor show and threshing bee. Mickey's impressive collection of John Deere toys and collectibles showcased his dedication to preserving the history of these iconic machines.
In addition to his love for tractors, Mickey enjoyed fishing and was involved in the blacksmithing club in Alva. He also played a significant role in organizing the annual youth expo, where he exposed countless children to exhibits on history, nature, and agriculture. He had a particular fondness for Native American exhibits, especially those featuring tipis and bison.
Mickey's woodworking skills were well-known, and he took great joy in building things for his grandchildren. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in each piece he created.
Mickey will be deeply missed and is survived by his son, Brian (Vickie) Maddox, step-sons Kevin (Fawn) Black and Kelly (Amy) Black, as well as his siblings, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Reva (Hoffman) Maddox, son Kent Maddox, daughter Elizabeth Maddox, and sister Venetta (Maddox) Brown.
Please join us in remembering Mickey Dwight Maddox and the joy he brought to our lives.
