Micky Szabo

Micky Szabo, 84 of Sterling, Colorado passed away Monday, March 3rd, 2025, at Sterling Regional Med Center. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 8th at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., with Deacon Bernie Schwartze officiating. Inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Miklos Szabo, later known as Micky, was born on September 14th, 1940, in Nyul, Hungary to Teresa and George Szabo. He was born at the beginning of World War II and grew up in Soviet occupied Hungary. At the age of 15, he was forced to flee Hungary to Austria during the Hungarian Revolution. He immigrated to the United States and learned English in Boys Town in Lincoln, Nebraska. He later moved to California and eventually settled with his family in Sterling, Colorado.
Micky was a loving father and devoted Papa to his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing the slots and spending time with his friends. He adopted his in-law's family as his own family and spent many years caring for his father-in-law and assisting his mother-in-law.
He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Virgil Ballinger.
Micky is survived by his mother-in-law Betty Ballinger of Sterling, CO, sons Scott (Michele) Szabo of Sterling, CO and Dan (Sherri) Szabo of Broomfield, CO, sisters-in-law Sandy Montano and Sue Fowler of Sterling, CO, and grandchildren Lauren, Owen, Zach, and Madelyn Szabo.
