Mignon "Sue (Donahue) Baker, 86, of Plainfield, passed peacefully from this life in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 4, 2024, while in the care of The Gathering Together. She was born the only child to the late John Hubert and Irene Merele (Watson) Donahue in Linton, IN on December 28, 1937.
The daughter of a coal miner, Sue attended Linton High School where she proudly led the marching band as a drum majorette and graduated with the class of 1955. She married her high school sweetheart Dick Baker on December 23, 1956. Upon graduation, she continued her education studying cosmetology and became a talented hair stylist. She secured employment with Block's on the circle in Indianapolis, and later worked at Danner's in Plainfield. In the later years, she worked side-by-side with Dick assisting with his business Woodcrafts by Baker, often winning awards for their abilities. A woman of Baptist faith, she was a past member of the Columbian Chapter Eastern Star 140.
A devoted and selfless mother, she dedicated her life to family ensuring her children and later grandchildren were well taken care of. A model matriarch, she was always there to lend an ear, dole out motherly advice, and guide them through life's journeys. Strict, small in stature, and sassy, Sue had a fiery spirit all while remaining loving and kind. She stood without judgement, was truly a guiding light but also knew when it was time to put you in your place.
An animal lover, she held dogs, especially Pomeranians near and dear to her heart, owning over 20 throughout her life. She loved dancing and singing and sang Ave Maria while walking down the aisle on her wedding day. She enjoyed going to craft fairs and making flower arrangements. When Dick passed in 2020, Sue found her joy in watching game shows, murder mysteries, Judge Judy, as well as playing solitaire and crushing candy (aka, Candy Crush). While she may be gone from this earthly world, she leaves a legacy of light and love for generations to come. She will be deeply missed.
Along with her parents, Sue is reunited in Heaven with her husband and partner of 64 years, Richard "Dick" Reid Baker; daughter, Lisa Fairfield; and son-in-law, Tom Weatherman.
She leaves behind her children, Lauri Weatherman of Camby, Tim Baker of Plainfield and Lana Sweeney (wife, Jennifer) of Cataract; son-in-law, Rick Fairfield of Martinsville; grandchildren, Ryan Fairfield of Bainbridge, Christa Fairfield of Martinsville, Nicholas Fairfield of Bainbridge, Rachel Weatherman of Indianapolis, Elicia Sweeney of Mooresville, Ashley Rose (Jarrett) of Indianapolis, and Tara Sue Baker of Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Landon, Dakota, Chase, Ava and Axl.
