Mike Broom – son, husband, dad, grandpa, and friend died from complications of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Over the course of more than six years, this disease stole Mike from us.
Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Luther and Annie Broom. The family moved first to North Carolina and then to the Skagit County in Washington State where Mike attended schools and made lifelong friends.
Mike met the love of his life, Joan, in 1970 while both were attending the University of Washington. After graduation, they married in 1974. Mike had an illustrious 40+ career in the automotive industry never meeting a person he couldn't befriend or a deal he couldn't close.
Mike and Joan welcomed their sons Kevin in 1977 and Justin in 1979. Mike followed, participated, led, and coached countless sporting and Scouting activities. Together, Mike and the boys restored a 1966 Ford Mustang utilizing Mike's vast automotive connections and extreme patience. Besides his family, Mike's other passions were exploring the world with his wife, Joan, followed closely by bird hunting with his boys, friends and his birddogs.
Mike is survived by Joan, his wife of 47 years; son Kevin Broom, his wife Emily and their two children – Sawyer and Ellis; and son Justin Broom, his wife Ness as well as numerous relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 8 at 1:00 pm at Maplewood Greens at Maplewood Golf Course 4050 Maple Valley Highway, Renton, WA.
The Broom family wishes to thank Aegis Living Memory Care in Kent for the loving and kind care they shared with Mike beginning in May 2021.
A donation in Mike's name to the Association of Frontotemporal Dementia (AFTD) to fund research and education would be appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers. – www.theaftd.org.
