Michael William McCaslin, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 30, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 56. Born on November 29, 1968, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, Mike's life was defined by a steadfast love for his family, a contagious laugh, and an unwavering character that inspired all who knew him.
From early on, Mike was a devoted competitor and athlete, playing baseball as a child and later distinguishing himself as a strong youth competitor in the Indian Territory Appaloosa Association, where he showed Appaloosa horses to great acclaim. Those who watched him knew that his quiet determination and natural connection with animals would remain a guiding force throughout his life.
Mike built a long and respected career in the painting and decorating industry, rising to the position of Vice President of The National Painting and Decorating Union. His creativity and energy were perhaps best witnessed by the impressive displays he orchestrated for the Home and Gardens shows at the Oklahoma City State Fair Grounds. He was an expert craftsman, a problem solver, and a reliable provider for his loved ones.
Above all, Mike will be remembered for the devotion he showed to his family. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Leann McCaslin, with whom he shared years of partnership and adventure. He was a proud and caring father to Gregory Anthony Engel, Tyler Martin McCaslin, and Sayla Dawn Engel. He is also survived by his beloved brother, Thomas Roy McCaslin, and cherished son to Frances Pamela McCaslin. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Alfred McCaslin; grandparents, Mary Brunson Harvey, Glenna Beatrice McCaslin, and Roy Alfred McCaslin.
Anyone who spent time with Mike knew how much he treasured family gatherings-especially camping trips, days spent on the river or at the lake, and countless rounds of water sports. He loved nothing more than sharing laughter and making memories with the people that mattered most to him. Even at home, with Tammy, Rosie, and Garfield, along with family time continued over spirited online video games from home to home and state to state, keeping the bonds strong despite distance.
Mike was an avid animal lover, always ready to take in any creature that came to his door. Even pets adopted by his children ultimately found a home with him when needed. His loyalty and care for those around him, whether two-legged or four-legged, were legendary.
A man of generosity, each year Mike made sure to create the grandest Christmas celebrations for his children, grandchildren, and extended family, saving all year to make every holiday truly magical.
His presence at the Oklahoma City Fair was an annual tradition, and he relished the chance to visit with family each year. Mike also had an abiding love for his Ford trucks-a small but enduring passion that always brought a smile.
Mike's character was defined by honesty, integrity, and a booming laughter that could fill any room and bring joy to even the most somber moments. He said what he meant and stood by every word; those close to him always knew where they stood and how deeply they were loved.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 10:00am at Carney Cemetery, Lincoln County, officiated by Pastor Randy Reasoner. A celebration of Mike's life will follow on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00am at the Large Lake Pavilion, Lake El Reno, El Reno, Oklahoma.
As we remember Mike, we take to heart the words of John 3:16 NKJV "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Mike's legacy of love, laughter, integrity, and devotion will remain a guiding light for all who were privileged to know him.
