Born on September 21, 1961, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, Mike was the son of the late John L. Rowland and Doris A. Rowland. A lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, he owned and operated Mike’s Automotive and Wrecker Service. Mike’s passion for automobiles, especially his Corvettes, was well known to all who knew him. He loved spending time at the drag strip, where the smell of turbo blue fuel filled him with joy. Mike’s passion for motorbikes was legendary in his youth, often performing wheelies that the neighborhood fondly remembered.
Known for his unwavering work ethic, Mike was a skilled body man and talented mechanic. Even as his health began to limit him, he continued to work tirelessly, spending countless hours on the road in his wrecker. In the final months of his life, he joined his brother William in the family septic pumping business started by their father in the 1970s, humorously calling it the “easiest job” he’d ever had.
Mike’s family and friends will remember his generous spirit, boundless energy, and his love for “picking” at people in good fun. He lived life to the fullest and left a lasting impact on everyone he knew.
He is survived by his son, Michael Brandon Rowland; brother, William (Kelley) Rowland; sisters, Doris Thomason, Sandra (Danny Turner) Watts, Rhonda (Tommy) Stanfill, and Cherry Ellis; his beloved granddaughter, Olivia Rowland; and the love of his life and mother of his son, Carol Brooks. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, his best friend, Sam Jordan, and his grand-dog, Morgan “MoJo.”
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, John Rowland, Jr. and Roger Dale Rowland; father-in-law, Les Brooks; and grandparents, William and Bethel Rowland and William and Goldie Espenchied.
Pallbearers will be Samuel Jordan, Perry Duke, Eric Arms, Justin Pope, Brandon Tuten, and Tommy Craig. Honorary pallbearers include Harry Wade Alexander, Mike Luttrell, Tim Moore, Peyton Craig, Mitch Gray, Ezel Webster, Bob Steelman, Larry Luttrell, and Will Billington.
