Mike Steffen, 50, of Asbury, died Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
A prayer service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home & Crematory followed by visitation until 7:00 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be 11:00 am Friday, May 23, 2025, at Church of the Resurrection with Father Phil Gibbs as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
Mike was born September 18, 1974, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Steve and Agnes (Kramer) Steffen. On April 30, 2011, he married Angela "Angie" Weber at the Peosta Community Center.
Mike was a 1992 graduate of Hempstead High School. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.
He was an engineering manager at Mi-T-M Equipment in Peosta for many years.
Mike was a member of the Church of the Resurrection. He had a deep love for baseball-whether he was playing in multiple leagues or simply enjoying a game on TV. He was also an avid golfer who frequently spent time on the greens at Timberline Golf Course, where he was a member. A loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, he held season tickets to their football games every year and, in his younger days, enjoyed cheering on the Cowboys. Mike had a real talent in the kitchen, often experimenting with new recipes he picked up from his favorite cooking shows. Some of his favorite memories were made on fishing trips up north with his dad and farming with his Uncle Marty. He also loved going to Metallica concerts, which brought out his fun-loving, adventurous spirit. Mike had a photogenic memory and an incredible ability to recall history facts, numbers, sports stats, and movie quotes with ease-always ready with a quick fact or a perfectly timed line from a favorite film.
Survivors include his wife, Angie of Asbury; two children, Keegan Spahn of Dubuque and Addison Spahn of Altoona, IA; his parents, Steve and Agnes Steffen of Peosta; one sister, Sara (Brad) Hjalmarson of Mesa, AZ; his mother-in-law, Colleen Weber of Monticello; three sisters-in-law, Sheri (Lonnie) Osterkamp of Anamosa, IA, Donna (Dennis) Feldman of Lisbon, IA, and Karen (Kelly) Green of Monticello; one brother-in-law, Pat (Sue) Weber of Monticello; and many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vince & Elizabeth Steffen and Bernard & Bernice Kramer, his uncle, Martin "Marty" Kramer, and his father-in-law, Delbert Weber.
The family of Mike would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and the compassionate nursing staff on the 5th Floor North at Finley Hospital and Hospice of Dubuque. Your exceptional care, kindness, and support meant so much to us during his time there. We are sincerely thankful for the comfort and dignity you provided in his final days.
