Mildred Bunch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hicks-Vaughn Funeral Home - Monticello on Jul. 28, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to Mildred Irene Bunch, who was a remarkable woman, a fearless mother, and a "Granny" everyone envied, because of the love and spirit she showed to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandson.
Mildred passed away peacefully at NHC Nursing Home in Glasgow, KY on July 27, 2023. Born to Cora Eva Stringer on October 27, 1933, Mildred dedicated her life to caring for others. They lived a modest life, but love was never in short supply. She attended Old Glory School and as a teenager, she lived with and cared for her grandparents.
She married Shelby "Cap" Bunch on July 4, 1952, and raised three wonderful daughters. She instilled in them the values of strength, resilience, determination, independence, spirit. and love. When widowed, she started working at Wayne County Board of Education as a cook. Mildred then became a dedicated employee at Oakwood Residential Facility, taking care of the mentally challenged children and later worked at the Cabinet for Health & Family Services supporting families needing help with parenting and helping foster children prepare for their own futures. Her empathy and dedication were unparalleled, and she was revered by both her colleagues and the community she served. She left her career to care for her first-born great grandson, Will. As much as she loved her work, her true joy came from being with her three daughters and her entire family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby "Cap" Bunch, her mother Cora Eva Dean (stepfather Herman), brother Gale Dean (Betty), and Carson Junior Dean. Stepchildren, Shelby Bunch Jr. (Virginia), Jesse Bunch (Irene and Kathleen), Gilford Bunch (Lydia-surviving), Gilbert Bunch, Rex Bunch (Zodell), Imogene Floyd (Billy}. Mildred has a host of step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews both deceased and living.
Surviving are three daughters. Vivian Hurt (Bobby) of Glasgow, Betty Stark (Laman}, of Carrollton, Mary Glass (Phillip) of Monticello. Grandchildren include CheyAnne Fant (Shane} of Glasgow, Lucas Hurt (Amber} of Glasgow, Leah Spencer (Zack) of Carrollton and Corey Stark (Leah) of Louisville. Great-great grandchildren include Will and Dean Fant, Jaxson and Blakely Hurt. Elle and Cora Spencer. Ryan Stark, Kyle Houts (Jake) and Oliver. One nephew Buddy Dean (Tammy) and two great nephews Kyle and Ryan Dean. Remember Mildred with smiles and gratitude for the remarkable life she lived. Her soul now rests in eternal peace. She made a difference in the lives of so many who will never forget her, because of the joy she spread.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 30, 2023, between 11:30 am – 1:30 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 2 pm at the Steubenville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
