It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to Mildred Irene Bunch, who was a remarkable woman, a fearless mother, and a "Granny" everyone envied, because of the love and spirit she showed to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandson.
Mildred passed away peacefully at NHC Nursing Home in Glasgow, KY on July 27, 2023. Born to Cora Eva Stringer on October 27, 1933, Mildred dedicated her life to caring for others. They lived a modest life, but love was never in short supply. She attended Old Glory School and as a teenager, she lived with and cared for her grandparents.
She married Shelby "Cap" Bunch on July 4, 1952, and raised three wonderful daughters. She instilled in them the values of strength, resilience, determination, independence, spirit. and love. When widowed, she started working at Wayne County Board of Education as a cook. Mildred then became a dedicated employee at Oakwood Residential Facility, taking care of the mentally challenged children and later worked at the Cabinet for Health & Family Services supporting families needing help with parenting and helping foster children prepare for their own futures. Her empathy and dedication were unparalleled, and she was revered by both her colleagues and the community she served. She left her career to care for her first-born great grandson, Will. As much as she loved her work, her true joy came from being with her three daughters and her entire family.
