Mildred M. Gedeon, age 95, of Georgia, passed away Friday May 17, 2024 at Community Hospice, Vidalia, Georgia. She was born July 26, 1928 in Fenwood, Wisconsin, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Hoffman) Dodd. She married Robert Gedeon on April 10, 1950 in Orwell, Ohio.
Mildred was a 1947 Graduate of Bloomfield High School. She enjoyed traveling, playing and listening to music. She also wrote poetry. Her favorite was the following which documented -Fifteen Little Indians- the lives and deaths of her siblings and parents. She was the youngest of fifteen children and the last one to join the rest.
Fifteen little Indians all born healthy and lean,
One died accidently when she was just fourteen (Bessie 4/16/1918-11/27/1932).
Fourteen little Indians happy it would seem,
Then World War II took one of them now there are thirteen (Robert Jr. 6/11/1921-2/8/1944).
Thirteen little Indians all alive and well, but scars from home and war took one now that leaves just twelve (Courtland 5/30/1911-2/14/1952).
Twelve little Indians 3 have gone to heaven,
One went away and never came back that brings us to eleven (Grant-4/2/1912-?)
Then God said I need help with this family, so he took our Dad away
And that left us just our Mom, here with us to stay (Robert Sr. 3/16/1872-8/17/1960)
Two years later Mom got sick, there's nothing we could do,
So God reached down and took our Mom to live in heaven too (Mary Elizabeth 6/2/1886-10/9/1962)
Eleven little Indians all left to fend, when cancer took the oldest one
So now we're down to ten (Annabelle 8/9/1906-6/22/1976)
Ten little Indians all seemed to be just fine then cancer took
another one and now there's only nine (Phyllis12/31/ 1924-1/6/1989)
The ones that went ahead of us all live with Mom and Dad
In Gods great house they wait for us and tell us "Don't be sad!"
Nine little Indians all left to their fate
Howard's gone to heaven too, so that leaves just eight (Howard 4/13/1910-12/3/1990)
Neil waited so long for God to take him home
Without his family, he always felt alone (Neil 8/10/ 1914-4/4/1993)
Lena tried so hard to breathe, she did her very best
Finally God wrapped his arms around her, and took her home to rest (Lena 6/19/1908-5/14/1996)
Wes made his journey into heaven, he went home to live with wife Evelyn (Wes 3/20/ 1913-11/21/2001)
Marty went home in 2008
I think Mom met him at Heaven's Gate (Marty 12/30/1926-3/27/2008)
In 2009 Marion said I'm through, Marty I think I'll follow you
When she got to Heaven's Gate she told the rest "I just couldn't wait so let's go and Celebrate (Marion 8/9/1916-12/16/2009)
Florence suffered such a long time, she said after all I've been through
I'll just join the rest of the crew (Florence12/28/ 1919-8/10/2010)
And now there's only two
Now Alton and I stand alone, don't know which one will be first to go home,
I think I will be the last to be mourned, because I was the last to be born.
All I can say it's been a fabulous journey through the years, with all the laughter and the tears,
If I could do it all again, I wouldn't change a thing, to be with my family would make my heart sing.
Now the last little Indian is alone, for Alton too has gone home (Alton-4/21/1923-2/13/2015)
I know when I cross to the other side, I'll be greeted by the whole tribe
Oh what a glorious day it will be when I see Jesus and my family. (Mildred 7/26/1928- 5/17/2024).
Mildred was preceded in death by husband, Robert, Jan 10, 1991. She is survived by daughters Karen Lett, and Diane Gedeon; Grand children, – Kortni Myers (son Luke), Tricia Arnold (children -Jimmy and Addi), and Peter Gedeon.
