Mildred "Millie" Rose (Brouillet) Hamel, 98, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025 at Hanover Hill Health Care, Manchester, following a period of decline.
Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, Millie is the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Osborne) Brouillet. In her adolescence, the Brouillet family returned to their roots in Whitefield, NH. Raised and educated in the north country, Millie earned a bachelor's degree from Mount Saint Mary's College, Hooksett. Following graduation, she taught business courses at Wilton High School and New Hampshire College. She also coached the girls basketball team at Wilton High School. On January 30, 1954, Millie married Dr. Raymond W. Hamel, Jr. during the worst blizzard of the year at St. Joseph's Chapel in Manchester, NH. The young couple settled in Bedford to raise their two children.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Millie's family was paramount in her life. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her great grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. Affectionately known as "Aunt Cheesen" by her Brouillet nieces and nephews, her home was a haven for friends and family. Quick with her wit and mischievous smile, Millie made friends easily and everywhere she went. Millie was an avid and fierce bridge player. She played with dear friends several times a month, well into her 80s. Millie will be best remembered for her kind heart and love of family.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Susan Hamel of Bedford; son, Dr. Michael Hamel and wife Maureen of Meredith; three grandchildren, Megan, Julie, and Nicholas; three great grandchildren, Rory, Calliope Rose, and Nicholas Jr.; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Raymond Hamel, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage; and three siblings, Clarence Brouillet, Mary Trudeau, and William Brouillet.
