Mildred Merle Jones Johnson, age 90, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. She was born March 1, 1935 in Kiblah, Arkansas. Mildred was employed by the Texas Department of Transportation for twenty-seven years. After her retirement, Mildred continued to be actively involved in the community. She worked at Dillard's as well as volunteered at St. Michael Hospital, the Battered Womens' Shelter and performed with the "Sweet Adelines Texarkana". She traveled to Europe, including stops in Holland and Germany. Mildred achieved her master's degree in psychology at the age of 60. Practicing a healthy lifestyle was important to her, which contributed to her fulfilling life. She enjoyed her golden years at the Cornerstone Senior Living Community where she adored her friendships, togetherness and the multiple activities.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Harold Johnson; parents, Elzia Hicks Jones and Tommie Jones; brothers, James Jones and Curtis Jones; and grandson, Jordan Coleman.

Mildred is survived by son, Derrel Reid of Midland, Texas, daughters, Sherry Reid and Gay Templeton of Texarkana, Texas, and son, Mark Templeton of Springfield, Missouri. Three grandchildren, Lindsey Higgins of Texarkana, Texas, Meghan Weir and Anna Condit of Midland, Texas, and grandsons-in-law Brandon Higgins of Texarkana, Texas and Kyle Weir of Midland, Texas. She was also fortunate to have seven great-grandchildren and an extended family of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, January 16, 2026 in the Hanner Funeral Service Chapel, with John Coleman officiating.

Viewing will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Hanner Funeral Service.

Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Doddridge, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MRC Cornerstone, 4100 Moores Lane, Texarkana, TX 75503. Please write "covenant fund" on the memo line.
