Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tuttle Funeral Home on Oct. 1, 2025.
Mildred Karol, our remarkable and beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished friend passed away at home, peacefully on July 30, 2025. She was 104 and the devoted matriarch of our family.
Mildred was the loving mother of three daughters, five grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and her strength, warmth, and grace has shaped generations. Along her long path, Mildred was the proud owner of Arden's of Morristown in Morristown, NJ, where she shared her keen eye for fashion and impeccable taste with the community for many years. 'The Shop' as she called it was more than a business. Mildred found great joy in helping women find simply beautiful, elegant dresses and outfits for their special events and travel adventures. It was a beautiful and successful business. She also enjoyed being a member of the Morristown business community.
A spirited world traveler, Mildred had an adventurous heart and passports full of stamps from exploring places near and far with curiosity and true delight. She traveled with friends and family and made so many friends along the way. Mildred also had a deep love for playing cards -- whether around a kitchen table with family or among friends -- and her sharp mind and playing spirit never waned. Reading was also a constant over her life, and she often said, "May I tell you something that I read?". Mildred loved conversation.
Born in Pennsylvania, she has also lived in Virginia, Iowa, Tennessee, New Jersey, and Florida over her life. Everyone was welcome at Mildred's home, and each home has always been beautifully decorated and warm. You would be treated with delicious homemade foods and desserts. Her attention to detail was effortless and lovely. Her kindness and generosity extended to various children's and family charities, as well as organizations to help our Veterans.
Mildred lived her life with elegance, resilience, and a sense of wonder that inspired all who knew her. Her faith in God gave her a beautiful life. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family for generations to come.
Mildred was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Joseph Karol, her parents Bertha (Koscho) and August Peters, her brothers Albert and Edward Peters, her sister Margaret (Peters) Siebert, her son-in law Arthur R. Miele, Jr., and her grandson Joseph Rowe.
Mildred is survived by her daughters JoAnn Miele, Barbara Rowe (Richard), and Patricia Copes (Kenneth), four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
The family will have a private memorial at her burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mildred's name to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey.
